THE PROJECT LOCATION: Cadogan Square, in the heart of Knightsbridge, Kensington, stands as one of London’s most prestigious residential addresses. Developed in the late 19th century as part of the Cadogan and Hans Place Estate, it is characterised by its iconic red brick façades.
SCOPE OF WORK: Hayward GRP was commissioned to design, engineer, and install eight bespoke planters finished in a precise colour match to harmonise with the project’s refined architectural aesthetic.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The 0800 Group commissioned Hayward GRP to deliver a batch of bespoke GRP planters as part of a prestigious refurbishment in Knightsbridge. The design brief called for eight purpose-built planters, precision-finished in a colour-matched coating to complement the surrounding architectural palette. Each planter was to be engineered to endure significant soil and water loadings without bowing, distortion, or compromise to structural integrity over its service life span.
Further technical specifications required the integration of heavy-duty, height-adjustable feet to enable millimetre-accurate levelling on site, along with optimised drainage via strategically positioned apertures to ensure rapid and efficient water run-off under all weather conditions.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following a site meeting with the 0800 Group’s project managers and Timothy Hatton Architects, Hayward GRP provided a detailed proposal. This included CAD models, production drawings, and construction samples with final finishes for client evaluation and approval.
Once authorised, our engineering team produced bespoke direct tooling for each planter. This enabled consistent dimensional accuracy. Each planter was fabricated using advanced cored GRP construction with integral bulkheads. This approach significantly enhances rigidity, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to long-term deflection.
After applying the final painted finishes, our specialist installation team transported the planters to site. They executed placement and levelling with meticulous accuracy for a flawless installation.
