THE CLIENT: Aerial Camera Systems stands as a global leader in the field of event cinematography, renowned for its expertise in capturing major sporting events around the world.
THE PROJECT: To develop new bodywork for Aerial Camera Systems’ high-speed rail track-camera system in time for the 2012 Olympic and Winter Games.
SCOPE OF WORK: Our objective was to design and manufacture precision-engineered bodywork for Aerial Camera Systems’ high-speed rail track-camera system (rail-cam).
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client, Aerial Camera Systems, collaborated with Hayward GRP to design and manufacture the innovative bodywork for their high-speed rail track camera systems. The GRP bodywork required dimensional accuracy and a perfect fit with the ACS chassis and camera head.
Given the rapid acceleration of 14 metres per second, factors such as weight and durability played a crucial role. The project was time-sensitive, with a strict deadline in place for the Olympic Games.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Confronted with a tight production timeline, Hayward GRP delivered a thorough proposal that included design assistance, validation, CNC-milled master patterns, and production tooling. This led to the creation of four sets of bodywork, accommodating both single and double camera head configurations.
The carefully designed GRP bodywork was made to precise measurements, delivered on schedule, and met all the required standards, exceeding all expectations.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
This project represented a significant achievement for Hayward GRP. Our team collaborated seamlessly with ACS to develop ultra-precise GRP bodywork for their high-speed rail track-camera system. Initially produced for the 2012 Olympic and Winter Games, this system has also been utilised at other prestigious events such as the Commonwealth Games, London Marathon, Grand National, and countless others.
