THE CLIENT: Elite is a specialist design and manufacturing consultancy firm based in East Sussex that collaborates with clients to deliver high end tailored solutions.
PROJECT LOCATION: The BBC’s Media Village at White City in West London, a vibrant complex of buildings and the BBC’s historic home since 1960, was the unique location for our project.
SCOPE OF WORK: Our challenge was to manufacture a meeting and seating pod that not only met the client’s needs but also had the ‘wow factor’.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: Elite, a client we’ve had the pleasure of supporting on previous projects, approached Hayward GRP for a unique undertaking. They wanted a six-metre diameter meeting and seating pod, with the top hemisphere serving as a projection screen and the lower hemisphere providing internal seating to view news on four 26″ LCD wide screens. This was a project that pushed the boundaries of design, imagination and innovation.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Elite commissioned Hayward GRP to manufacture a 6-m-diameter meeting and seating pod for their client. Hayward GRP provided the complete manufacturing solution for the project, which included design assistance with drawings and CAD work, master patterns, and production tooling, and the impressive meeting and seating pod.
As part of our remit, we also supplied structural steelwork and conducted a complete factory test build for the client’s approval prior to delivery and final installation on site.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
Working with our colleagues at Elite on this project was an exciting endeavour. The iconic BBC Globe has been brought to life using high-definition projectors and LCD screens that create an impressive visual experience. The moulded GRP media pod is located in the atrium of the New Media Centre in London, a dynamic space used for both corporate hosting and as a global living room to relay and promote awareness of current BBC news and business.
This project exemplifies our team’s ability to translate client concepts into fully realised outcomes. From start to finish, the collaboration with Elite made this project enjoyable.
