THE CLIENT: Keda Construction, also known as Keda Structures, is a Jersey-based company specialising in steel fabrication and construction, they offer a wide range of services including design, fabrication, and installation of complex steel structures. Keda serves diverse sectors with precision engineering and uncompromising quality.
THE PROJECT: The contract involved the production of advanced mobile phone mast shrouds for network infrastructure across Jersey, Channel Islands, combining structural strength with optimised RF transparency.
SCOPE OF WORK: Design, engineer, and manufacture large-scale composite shrouds to protect mobile mast antennas, supported by validated Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural integrity and Radio Frequency (RF) simulations to ensure minimal signal attenuation.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: Keda Construction, required a GRP partner with demonstrable capability in delivering large-scale, engineered composite structures to stringent tolerances. The commission involved the design, fabrication, and delivery of an initial batch of 28 mobile phone mast shrouds for strategic deployment across Jersey.
Critical to the specification were the precision interfaces between each shroud and the supporting steel mast structures, demanding exact dimensional accuracy. Furthermore, the GRP solution had to be validated for structural integrity and RF transparency ensuring both mechanical durability and uninterrupted telecommunications performance.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following contract award, Hayward GRP collaborated closely with KEDA’s engineering team to establish a complete understanding of the operational and performance requirements for the GRP shrouds. This enabled our team to develop a fully engineered solution, incorporating CAD design, finite element analysis, and RF predictions.
With client approval, we proceeded to manufacture precision master patterns and production tooling. The first GRP shroud was then produced and subjected to a test installation on a fabricated steel structure, confirming dimensional accuracy and assembly integrity. Following a successful test build the shroud was shipped to Jersey for client evaluation, where the shroud was approved for its outstanding fit, strength, and RF transparency. Full-scale production was then authorised.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
This project was an exciting collaboration between Hayward GRP and KEDA Construction. From the initial brief through to design, manufacture and delivery, every aspect was meticulously managed and flawlessly executed. The engineered GRP Shrouds were manufactured to precise tolerances ensuring a seamless installation process for KEDA’s site engineers.
