SCOPE OF WORK: To design, manufacture, and install a GRP staircase, integrated landing platform, and precision-engineered safety handrails.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client, Lloyds TSB, required the expertise of a GRP specialist to support a significant upgrade at one of their national data control centres. As part of an extensive refit involving new power and networking infrastructure, the client commissioned a bespoke GRP staircase and landing system.
The specification called for components manufactured from non-conductive, fire-retardant GRP, incorporating a high-traction, non-slip surface, and complemented by robust safety handrails, ensuring absolute compliance with safety and operational standards within an electrically sensitive environment.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Upon being awarded the project, Hayward GRP carried out a thorough site survey to comprehend the facility’s spatial parameters, access points, and technical requirements. This initial phase enabled the development of a tailored proposal that included detailed CAD schematics and full RAMS documentation to address all health and safety considerations.
Following client approval, we manufactured the staircase using direct tooling methods, delivering a structurally resilient GRP staircase inclusive of landing and integrated handrails. The completed staircase featured high-visibility step nosing and a durable non-slip finish, engineered for maximum safety and performance.
The finished solution was delivered to the site and installed by our in-house team with precision and minimal disruption

This project represented an intriguing yet straightforward brief for the Hayward GRP team. The objective was clear: deliver a durable, low-maintenance GRP staircase and landing with safety handrails and the added provision for secure routing of high-voltage cables beneath the structure.
GRP (Glass reinforced plastic) was the perfect material for the project; it’s rigid, hard-wearing, and non-conductive. The solution was executed to an exacting standard, meeting both the practical and operational needs of the client.
