THE APPLICATION: The TRT (Tracked Rail Transposer) is a robust, rubber-tracked machine fully certified for use across UK rail networks. Engineered to remove, transport, and install all rail profiles and accompanying ironwork found trackside, the TRT delivers seamless integration and dependable performance in demanding operational conditions.
SCOPE OF WORK: To design and manufacture specialist production tooling and deliver fully assembled, heavy-duty GRP bodywork
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: McCulloch Rail required a GRP moulding partner with proven expertise in engineering high-performance bodywork for specialist plant and machinery. In particular, the project brief called for a complete GRP body shell for the TRT machine complete with all doors and hatches pre-fitted with operational hardware, streamlining McCulloch Rail’s in-house assembly process.
Durability was a critical requirement. Each GRP moulding, including the primary shell, needed to be manufactured to withstand extreme environmental exposure and the rigours of daily trackside use.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following an in-depth consultation with McCulloch Rail’s engineering team, Hayward GRP developed a comprehensive proposal addressing all technical and performance requirements. The scope included design support, workshop drawings, engineering calculations, and a durable build methodology designed for long-term operational integrity.
Upon successful review and approval of the proposal, Hayward GRP commenced production, starting with the creation of new master patterns and precision tooling. The initial set of GRP mouldings was fabricated and fully assembled to the client’s specifications, undergoing First Article Inspection (FAI) and quality assurance checks. Each component was approved without exception, affirming our commitment to performance and excellence.

Following a stringent supplier qualification process, Hayward GRP was formally appointed as an approved manufacturing partner to McCulloch Rail. Our task: to deliver precision-engineered GRP bodywork for the TRT (Tracked Rail Transposer).
