THE CLIENT: MSE UK (Measuring and Scientific Equipment UK) established in Great Britain in 1936, is one of the most respected and globally recognised names in centrifuge technology. MSE UK was the recipient of the inaugural Queen’s Award in 1966.
THE APPLICATION: The BLUEFORCE 12L Refrigerated Centrifuge ranks among the world’s largest floor-standing centrifuges and is poised to set a new benchmark in large-volume blood processing. This centrifuge was developed over many years, in close partnership with a leading blood transfusion institution. It has been precision-engineered to exceed the stringent standards of this highly specialised sector.
SCOPE OF WORK: Hayward GRP was commissioned to support the design and manufacture of the prototype console and inner lid mouldings for this breakthrough medical device.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: MSE UK approached Hayward GRP to develop and produce a new GRP console and inner lid moulding for their high-capacity BLUEFORCE 12L centrifuge. The brief called for a striking aesthetic in a signature blue finish; and complete accuracy to ensure the product’s fit and function.
Given its durability, dimensional stability, and ease of maintenance, GRP emerged as the ideal material, satisfying both performance and design requirements.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following detailed consultations with the MSE UK design and engineering team, Hayward GRP submitted a tailored project proposal. Our scope encompassed design collaboration, full CAD modelling, and a comprehensive design review to ensure manufacturability and optimal component integration.
With approval secured, Hayward GRP produced precision CNC-milled master patterns, production tooling, and the initial set of GRP mouldings, fabricated using both hand-lay and Light Resin Transfer Moulding (LRTM) techniques to ensure complete precision and accuracy.
A full independent First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) was conducted prior to installation, confirming the exacting fit and performance of each component.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
This collaboration exemplified the synergy between client vision and our engineering execution. Hayward GRP delivered the ultra-precise console and lid mouldings with a high gloss finish direct from the mould, meeting every design and functional objective.
The exceptional outcome led MSE UK to award us the additional commission for the smaller BLUEFORCE 1L model, further cementing the partnership. From concept to completion, it was a privilege to support MSE UK in realising this industry-defining centrifuge.
