THE CLIENT: TEX ATC is an innovative engineering firm within the aviation sector, renowned for designing, manufacturing, and installing advanced Air Traffic Control Room (ATCR) and Visual Control Room (VCR) systems for both defence and civil aviation environments worldwide.
PROJECT LOCATION: As Oman’s principal aviation hub, Muscat International Airport serves as a critical gateway to the Middle East. Its state-of-the-art terminal, with a current capacity of 20 million passengers annually, has been designed for future scalability, accommodating up to 56 million travellers.
SCOPE OF WORK: To design, manufacture, and deliver a ten-metre diameter GRP Radome engineered to withstand the most demanding environmental extremes and operational conditions.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: TEX ATC sought a specialist GRP engineering firm with a proven ability to produce large GRP structures supported by calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) The project scope required the design, manufacture and installation of a ten-meter diameter Radome to meet the precise engineering and performance requirements of the newly commissioned air traffic control tower at Muscat International Airport
Installed at an elevation exceeding 300 feet, the Radome was required to withstand high wind loads, and intense temperatures necessitating a structurally robust, and carefully engineered GRP solution.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
After being awarded the project, Hayward GRP developed a comprehensive technical proposal encompassing detailed design, CAD drawings, engineering calculations, and Finite Element Analysis for client review and evaluation.
Upon design approval, our team produced precision CNC-milled master patterns, production tooling, and the ten-meter diameter GRP Radome which incorporated an integrated door system and weather trims.
A full-scale pre-installation test build was conducted under controlled factory conditions to confirm dimensional conformity, structural alignment, and component interface performance. This allowed for comprehensive client inspection and quality assurance prior to final packing, export, and site deployment in Oman.
