INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: Vear Building Services approached Hayward GRP to support the delivery of a significant infrastructure package involving a subterranean plant room constructed to service a luxury spa hotel. The requirement: to engineer and install a robust, low-maintenance 6m x 6m GRP roof structure, incorporating a lockable personnel access door and a removable panel to allow future plant equipment extraction if required.
Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) was selected as the ideal solution: lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and engineered for structural performance over a service life exceeding 50 years, even in moisture-rich environments.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Hayward GRP collaborated closely with Vear’s engineering team to review the reinforced concrete plant room on site. A comprehensive site survey was undertaken to assess the structural interface and determine key technical parameters.
Following this, we developed a complete project specification, including CAD design drawings, photorealistic render visuals, and full structural load and stress calculations to validate the GRP roof system.
Once approved, a precision direct tool was fabricated in-house to facilitate the manufacture of the modular roof structure, seamlessly integrating both the access door and removable panel. The 6m x 6m self-supporting GRP unit was then delivered and installed by our own specialist site team, ensuring consistency, compliance, and control from concept to completion.
