THE CLIENT: TEX ATC is an innovative engineering firm within the aviation industry, specialising in the design, manufacture, and installation of Air Traffic Control Rooms (ATCR) and Visual Control Room (VCR) solutions for both military and civilian applications on a global scale.
THE APPLICATION: RAFO Thumrait Airbase, located near Thumrait in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate, serves as a strategic military airport operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman and is home to two RAFO squadrons of F16 aircraft.
SCOPE OF WORK: Design, manufacture, and delivery of a ten-meter diameter GRP Radome engineered to withstand extreme environmental and operational demands.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
TEX ATC required a ten-meter diameter Radome to meet precise engineering and performance criteria for their air traffic control operations at RAFO Thumrait. The Radome needed to reliably endure high wind loads, seismic activity, intense temperatures, and prolonged desert exposure, necessitating a robust, carefully engineered GRP solution.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
After securing the project, Hayward GRP developed a comprehensive proposal, providing detailed design assistance, CAD drawings, advanced calculations, and Finite Element Analysis for client review and approval.
Following successful sign-off, we produced precision CNC-milled master patterns, production tooling, and the ten-meter diameter GRP Radome complete with integrated door systems and weatherproof trims.
A complete factory test build was also conducted to validate the Radome’s integrity and performance, allowing client evaluation before shipment and on-site installation in Oman.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
This project was our second collaboration with TEX ATC, delivering exceptional results. We successfully delivered the 10m diameter Radome that met the precise specifications of TEX ATC and their client, the Royal Air Force of Oman, alongside the Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman.
