THE CLIENT: Established in 2001, Curventa is an award-winning industrial design consultancy celebrated for delivering elegant, technically astute design solutions across sectors.
THE PROJECT: The Media Pod was conceptualised by the pioneering urban technology firm Renew, with industrial design led by Curventa. Fusing utility with innovation, the units integrate secure public recycling functionality with dual high-definition media displays capable of broadcasting real-time news, financial updates, transport alerts and curated content.
SCOPE OF WORK: Hayward GRP was appointed to engineer and manufacture the precision-engineered GRP cladding system to encase and protect each bomb-proof media and recycling unit, with specific attention paid to security, environmental durability and visual impact.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: Curventa approached Hayward GRP to support the technical realisation of a flagship project for Renew, a combined media and recycling infrastructure unit requiring advanced GRP fabrication. The design brief called for visually harmonious GRP panels, blending a smooth satin texture with precision gloss detailing to enhance contrast and contour.
In addition to aesthetic refinement, the cladding demanded structural integrity capable of protecting the embedded technology from environmental wear, urban pollution, and acts of vandalism or attempted tampering.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following our appointment, we collaborated closely with Curventa to establish the engineering specifications and performance tolerances required for the GRP cladding system. Our proposal encompassed design refinement, material selection, construction methodology, and assembly guidance.
Upon client approval, Hayward GRP engineered a set of precision CNC-milled master patterns and production tooling to manufacture the initial panels. These were submitted for First Article Inspection (FAI), where the prototypes were evaluated for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and fit.
The results exceeded expectations, demonstrating a flawless balance of structural precision and visual elegance. This success allowed for a seamless transition into full-scale production aligned with Renew’s UK rollout schedule.
