THE CLIENT: SBFI (Specialised Banking Furniture International) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of technical furniture systems, with expertise in trading desks, control rooms, and technical workspaces. Founded in 1976, they focus on creating furniture that connects people with technology, emphasising ergonomics, quality, and sustainability.
THE PROJECT: To manufacture State-of-the-art air traffic control furniture for use in Air Traffic Control Towers, Simulators & Training Room environments.
SCOPE OF WORK: To develop tooling and manufacture the GRP components required for SBFI’s new innovative workstations and desk systems.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: SBFI required a specialist GRP manufacturer capable of supporting their inhouse development and delivery of next-generation air traffic control workstations for critical-use environments. These contemporary, highly functional desk systems were designed to meet the rigorous demands of control rooms and simulation spaces, while delivering exceptional levels of ergonomic performance and adjustability for operators.
Having previously collaborated with Mark Avis and Andrew Knight at SBFI, we were once again selected as their trusted GRP partner, chosen for our precision, reliability, and proven ability to deliver complex engineered components to SBFI’s exacting standards.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Having gained the confidence and approval from SBFI, we worked closely with their inhouse production team to define a clear and fully compliant specification for the GRP elements. This collaborative approach enabled us to rapidly progress into master pattern production, followed by precision tooling and prototype components developed for fit and function testing.
The initial prototypes exceeded client expectations in both form and finish, validating the design and enabling us to transition seamlessly into full production to meet delivery schedules and installation deadlines.
THE RESULT IN CONCLUSION
This project marked another successful collaboration with our colleagues at SBFI and their wider production team, resulting in a technically advanced and aesthetically striking GRP solution for their latest workstation programme. We delivered all tooling and manufactured components to specification, on schedule, and to an exceptional standard.
The project stands as a clear demonstration of our capability to support clients across every stage of the contract lifecycle, from initial concept and specification through to manufacture, completion, and post-installation support. It was a privilege to work once more with SBFI on such a significant and innovative project.
