THE PROJECT: To design and deliver a collection of bespoke display tables that enhance the presentation of Women’s designer collections at Selfridges’ flagship Oxford Street, London store.
SCOPE OF WORK: Design, engineer, and manufacture a series of high-end GRP display tables that reflect Selfridges’ renowned luxury identity, combining refined aesthetics with structural durability and a flawless finish quality.
INTRODUCTION IN BRIEF
The client: Edgewater Contracts required a GRP specialist with an exceptional track record in delivering high-end, custom-moulded installations for luxury environments. The brief called for precision-crafted display tables to support and elevate Selfridges’ presentation of premium designer fashion.
Each GRP table needed to achieve a flawless pearlescent surface finish, while incorporating solid marble tops framed in brass. These aesthetic demands were matched by significant engineering requirements; the tables had to include concealed internal support structures capable of safely transferring dead loads from the marble tops down to the floor with absolute integrity and stability.
OUR SOLUTION AND OBJECTIVES
Following the appointment, Hayward GRP collaborated closely with Edgewater’s design team to transform the conceptual designs into a technically robust and fully engineered solution. This included detailed construction drawings, CAD models, and physical prototypes to validate the form, strength, and finish of the proposed tables.
Our engineering team produced a CNC-milled master pattern to enable the creation of the production mould. From this, eleven bespoke GRP tables were fabricated, each incorporating a concealed internal support matrix to accommodate the weight distribution of the marble tops.
The final painting of the tables delivered a flawless pearlescent finish ready for careful packaging and delivery to the site for final inspection, assembly, and seamless installation.
